Book Blogger Hop - 9/6 - 9/12

  *******************
I am back in New York visiting my son and attending the Hachette Book Event on Saturday, September 7.

I will try to check in.  If not today perhaps over the weekend.

Have fun.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

What got you started as a blogger? Everyone has a story/reason, what's yours?

MY ANSWER:

Now this is a GREAT question.  I know there will be many wonderful answers.

I got started as a blogger because I was curious about what in the world a blog was.  :)  I truly had no idea nor did I know how to navigate.  I remember puzzling about how do these people leave comments.  LOL!!!  How about that for being clueless?

I would go on blogs...not sure at this time how I even found book blogs.  When I did visit a blog, I saw what fun it seemed for other bloggers to interact on different memes and how fun it was to post thoughts about books they read.

I think the first meme I checked out was Mailbox Monday.  I was thrilled to see all these wonderful books that folks received in the mail, and I wanted to be a part of that.  I also checked out the Book Blogger Hop and loved the questions and especially the answers.

So...thanks to those two memes, I really became interested in starting a blog.  I knew it would be fun, and I just knew that other book bloggers had to be warm, caring people.

I had no idea what I was doing at first, but with time, all was good.

As I began having so much fun interacting even without a blog and getting encouragement from other bloggers, Silver's Reviews was born.

Kathy of BermudaOnion's Weblog was my inspiration and encouragement that got me started.  I finally was able to meet Kathy this year at the BEA.  :)

I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have my blog.  It is a great source of enjoyment mainly because of the bloggers.

What is your story?

  2. That was a wonderful story Elizabeth. I know exactly what you meant by getting excited after looking at some Mailbox Monday posts. My experience was with Stacking the Shelves Sunday and I loved drooling over the new awesome books people got.
    Have a great weekend :-)

Mailbox Monday was also my first meme and I have no idea how I even got into the book blogging community. I think it was almost my accident but I'm so happy with all the experiences and bloggers I have gotten to known! Thanks for sharing, hope you have a good weekend!

  6. Envious you get to go to Hachette! :)

I like seeing everyone's stories about how they got started. The sense of community was something that appealed to me ... and the memes really helped me get started, too.

  7. I think I'm going to participate in this new Book Blogger Hop. The old one was too huge...and it was hard to visit all the bloggers.

I was pretty clueless about blogging, too; my publishing consultant suggested it as a way to "market" my books, so I started the first one without knowing anything about the book blogging community.

It was a year later that I stumbled on Sheila, from the Book Blog site...and she was going through Bloggiesta. I learned a lot from her, and from J. Kaye Oldner, who ran the Monday, It's Reading meme for awhile.

Memes were definitely a way to get initiated into visiting blogs and commenting.

Have fun in New York! It sounds fabulous.

  8. I started blogging because I was getting divorced and couldn't afford therapy. Blogging works better than therapy, anyway.

    Love,
    Janie

  11. I agree. The book blogging community is very warm. People are so kind and co-operative. My favorite blog memes are book tours - I love reading excerpts and author interviews.

  13. What a great story! Have fun in NYC! I was there for BEA13 and had a blast. I didn't spend that much time in the city like I wanted to. Go to Junior's in Brooklyn for dinner and get a slice of cheesecake for desert. It's heaven!!!!

  14. Nice story about starting out! I didn't post one today--was out all day.
Didn't know there was some kind of Hachette event in NY. I'd like to attend one of these events sometime, especially since I'm not too far from NYC. Hope you are having a wonderful time!!

  16. What a fabulous story! I did some blogging in a diary style format and was following some general info blogs and I have to say that book bloggers are the best of the best there are. I am so glad that you were able to join! :)

THANKS for stopping, Rita_h. The event is tomorrow. I attended last year, and it was very nice. I came from Pittsburgh. I think I am the only one who attended that wasn't from New York. It is a chance to visit my son too. :)

Kate...definitely so happy I figured out how to use the features on the blogs. THANKS for stopping by.

  21. Your blog experience is inspirational! I started my blog b/c I wrote a book and then learned that apparently all writers are supposed to have blogs.:) At 1st, it seemed a little daunting- now I have two writing responsibilities (in addition to my "real job"). But, once I started checking out the book blog community, I knew it would be fun and would be a great way to not get too stressed about meeting creative writing deadlines. Since I'm writing a children's book, my blog focuses on childhood reading and often has reflections on life inspired by children's books. It's been a lot, a lot of fun so far!

I guess when I think of it, I did have reviews on Shelfari, but saw that blogs were so fun and I am so glad I started one.

Michie..thanks for stopping. Glad you like the story of how Silver's Reviews was born. :)

  25. No doubt, you caught on. The community is terrific, but the reason I started was that I knew it would keep me in the know about books that I might have not known about otherwise.
