Book Beginnings - 5/1/15

*Please join Rose City Reader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name.  *Taken directly from Rose City Reader's Blog Page.

This week's book beginnings comes from THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT by Beatriz Williams.

"I nearly missed that card from the post office, stuck up as it was against the side of the mail slot.  Just imagine.  Of such little accidents is history made."

I am enjoying this book.  It starts out with a suitcase full of things from the life of Vivian's aunt, and it starts a search for all the answers and secrets.  Aunt Violet is an interesting character.  :)

It is funny and delightful.

Finished these two books...both were very good.

THE SOUND OF GLASS by Karen White.

I loved this book.  Review will be up May 21.

"An unholy tremor rippling through the sticky night air alerted Edith Heyward something wasn't right.  Like a shadow creeping past a doorway in an empty house, or the turn of the latch on a locked door, the movement outside Edith's opened attic window raised the gooseflesh along her spine."

LAST NIGHT AT THE BLUE ANGEL by Rebecca Rotert.

I enjoyed the read.

ENJOY if you read it.

    1. They were all so good, Sandra.

Violet was fantastic. It was published last year, and the release of the paperback is being celebrated this month.

Karen White's books are all favorites.

      Thanks for stopping, Sandra.

  12. You're Book Beginning is really good. I can kind of relate to it in a way, especially with our current postman (he's a bit useless). Hope you're enjoying it!

    1. That is sad your postman is so careless.

The beginning holds true for being a fantastic read throughout the entire book.

      Thanks for stopping, Lauren.

  13. Hi Elizabeth,

I can also relate to your opening lines in the same way as Lauren can. Our current postman seems to enjoy the challenge of getting the mail stuck in the most obscure crevaces of the letter box, where it has been known to sit overnight before being discovered.

I'm off to check my letter box right now, just in case we have something important lurking there, just as important as your character's postcard obviously is!

Definitely a book for my TBR list and I shall be checking out more work by the author :)

Have a good Sunday, miserable weather here!!
