Book Beginnings - 8/14/15

*Please join Rose City Reader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name.  *Taken directly from Rose City Reader's Blog Page.

My book beginnings is taken from A CURIOUS BEGINNING by Deanna Raybourn.

"I stared down into the open grave and wished that I could summon a tear.  Violent weeping would have been in exceedingly poor taste, but Miss Nell Harbottle had been my guardian for the whole of my lie, and a tear or two would have been a nice gesture of respect."

It is an odd, but good mystery.  My review will be up on September 30.

I finished this book the week before last.
THE PROMISE OF HOME by Darcie Chan.

LOVED this and all of Ms. Chan's books.

Review is in the book's title.

  5. I think I was in this very position this week. A man we know was murdered. I was very close to his wife at one time and her husband, though cordial, was always rough around the edges so I didn't really like him. When heard about his murder, my husband started to cry and I couldn't summon a tear. How calloused of me. Sigh. (I am mad about the murder and it is very tragic but I just couldn't cry.)

  9. Oooh beautiful cover! I really like the BB!! Excellent choice. It makes you wonder if there's something that happened between them, or if she just doesn't cry much anyway.
    Have a great day,

  12. Some of those titles/covers look SO familiar. But I don't know if I visit enough book blogs that I've seen them before, or if I have them on my shelf! YIKES!

Anyway, I love to come to your linkup and see what people have going.
