Book Blogger Hop - 3/24 - 3/30

 Question of the Week:

How do you handle negative comments left on your blog? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

My Answer:

I normally do not get negative comments, but I occasionally do get spam.

I would treat the negative comments the way I treat spam.  I wouldn't confront either the spam person or the negative comment because I am not a confrontational person.
I would simply delete the comment and move on.

  1. I haven't had to deal with that either.

    1. I think it is rare that folks leave negative comments on blogs.

      Thanks for stopping, Kathy.

  2. I'm the same way; I delete and move on. I don't waste my time responding. Of course that's only if the comments cross the line that I have set. :)

    1. No sense responding - just causes more aggravation. Glad you do the same.

  3. I can't imagine ANYONE ever leaving you a negative comment, Elizabeth! You're just such a sweet person! :) But, if they ever did, I agree with your approach -- just delete the comment and move on.

Writing blog posts is supposed to be a stimulating, pleasant, and, at the same time, a relaxing hobby. Thankfully, most bloggers -- especially book bloggers, I think -- see it that way, too. Thus, they don't usually get confrontational. At least it hasn't been that way, in my experience, thank God!

There are bloggers who do write controversial posts, and they would be more liable to receive negative comments. In those cases, I think your way of handling things is really the best. Confrontations do not solve anything, and create an unpleasant atmosphere on a blog.

I think one of those "Keep calm and...." sayings would work well in such situations! Lol.

Have a great weekend!! Happy Hopping, and thanks for sharing!! <3 :)

    1. Awwww...thanks, Maria.

I agree that book bloggers usually have only good things to say.

A Keep Calm comment would definitely work.

      Thanks for stopping, Maria.

  4. I've seen some really negative comments on food or lifestyle blogs but never really on a book blog. I think book people are just nice people! I agree with the way you deal with the occasional negative or spam - ignore and move on!

    1. I agree that book bloggers are all very nice.

Yep...ignore and move on is the best.

Confrontation doesn't solve anything, and the person doing the negative stuff is most likely unreasonable. :)

      Thanks for stopping, Katherine.

  6. I do the exact same thing. I don't like confrontation myself and I try to avoid it as much as I can.

  8. Sometimes I find moving on to be challenging. Though I don't engage with people who have left negative comments, I did find it difficult to let it go, wondering what I'd done to provoke the person.

  9. As eli says, if it's a comment about my books that's unjustified, I find it hard to move on... but I've not really had negative comments left on my blog, so like most of us, I'm lucky.
I'm also lucky to skip from Skibbereen to Portree on this Hop today - what an excellent choice of destinations we have on this meme!!

  10. I get some passive aggressive comments on the blog now and then and I reply with a simple, "Really?" I have only gotten a couple of bad comments and I deleted them. :)
