Book Blogger Hop - 5/5 - 5/11

 Question of the Week:

Do you re-arrange and move books around on the shelves or move books off of your bookshelves to another area after a certain amount of time or do you just leave them the way they are? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

My Answer:

I actually do not re-arrange my books, but I do move my books "in the exact same order they are" to another bookshelf when ALL of the shelves get filled.

What I mean is that my books are in order by the date they have been read starting at the top shelf to the bottom shelf with the top shelf having the oldest books.

When all shelves are filled in my main bookshelf in the living room, I take the books on the top shelf (the oldest books) and move them to a different bookshelf in another room. Then the next shelf down gets moved up to the top and so on down the bookshelf so my bottom shelf is now empty and ready for the current, completed reads.

I am running out of bookshelves in every room of my house, though, even though I always give books to the library and friends.

I hope my method makes sense the way I explained it.  :)

  2. I'm hoping to add more bookcases in the future but until then I'm out of space and using storage boxes for the majority of my books. I love how organized you are! I have a process though it isn't quite as firm as yours.

    1. It's the business teacher in me. :)

      Organization is my middle name...LOL!!

Thanks for the compliment, Katherine, and for stopping.

I actually only have four bookcases and one tub of books.

  3. I think I get what you do. I don't rearrange books. I lend books to a few people and then give them away.

    1. I have given tons away to friends and to the library.

I do have my favorites that I MUST keep. :)

It is good I am not going to the BEA this year. :)

      Thanks for stopping, Kathy.

  4. Wow... I envy how much bookshelf space you must have. I had to give up my big shelves when we got a new couch so now only my most recent reads and the really important ones have shelf space.

    1. I have one large bookshelf and three smaller ones.

Some are stacked two deep even after I have given a lot away.

      Some I just can't part with...well A LOT I can't part with. :)

      Thanks for stopping, literarycounsellor.

  5. Yes I used to move around my books as well in my apt, until I got help to arranged them by my mom. I still need more shelf's because of the ever growing books I get but I still have them arranged how I want them to be. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog hop and have a great weekend Elizabeth.

    1. Moms are the BEST!!

I need more shelves too, but I also need to give more books away. So difficult to do, though. I love my books. :)

      Thanks for stopping, Katiria.

  6. What an interesting way to organise them! I guess it makes it easy to remember which you've read and which you haven't.

  7. Wow! You really have your system down, Elizabeth. That is awesome. I used to keep my read books separate from my unread books, but my husband talked me into mixing them up when we moved into our current house. I haven't regretted it. All our books (except for my daughter's) are alphabetized by author's last name. I worry that I wouldn't be able to find a book I am looking for otherwise!

I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

  8. ABSOLUTELY your method makes sense, Elizabeth! It's a GREAT one, too! Alas, I could never be THAT organized....lol. I'm a hopelessly CHAOTIC bookworm! Lol, lol, lol!!!! And I admire folks like you, who are indeed able to organize themselves so well!! I guess that, when God gave out "organizing genes", he forgot all about me.... :) :) :)

I think your method is entirely logical and quite original, as well! It sure helps you to keep track of books read! KUDOS TO YOU!!

Happy Hopping! Hope you have a WONDERFUL Sunday!! And keep on organizing!!

Thanks for visiting my blog as usual, and leaving such a GREAT comment on my own BBH post!! HUGS!!!! <3 <3 :) :)

  9. That's a great system! I wouldn't think to do it like that. You need more bookshelves!

    1. Oh yes...I definitely need more bookshelves AND I need to give more books away, but that is so difficult. You never know when someone may ask if you have the book, right? :)

      Thanks for stopping, Chrissy.

    2. Exactly! My neighbors borrow books from me often. I have a hard time donating my books as well. I try to do a clean out and donation any time we move. And I'll probably do another donation once my husband finishes the bookshelves he is building for me. But it is so hard!

    3. It is very hard.

Some I just CANNOT give away. My favorites will be with me forever. :)

I do share and have given quite a few away, but I miss them. LOL!!

      Thanks for stopping back, Chrissy.

  10. I do mine by author, but my method is much the same as yours. When the big bookcase we moved gets reorganized it will probably look exactly the same as before. :)
