FEATURING: The Children's Train by Viola Ardone

HISTORICAL FICTION - ITALY - WWII

The war is over, but Italy is still recovering and is filled with underprivileged children.

Northern Italy seems to have come back much quicker and is more prosperous.

THE CHILDREN'S TRAIN is a story based on true events that happened post WWII.

This was another event in history that I wasn't aware of.

It is educational, uplifting, but also heartbreaking.

ENJOY!!

Storm Warning by David Bell

Jake was trying to get back to Ohio from Florida, but just as he decides to leave, a hurricane hits the island he lives on.

He lives in a building that may not withstand the storm, but on his way out his wife and daughter show up.

In the middle of a hurricane?  What were they thinking?

So....Jake, his family, and six others that include a sick woman and a ninety-one-year old are stranded along with a murderer.

They all will be staying in an apartment on the second floor that is the safest place in the not-so-safe building to wait out the storm and to keep safe from a murderer unless the murderer is in the room with them.

They don't really know who this person is that turned up and said he was a security guard.

We ride out the storm with the motley group of residents just trying to stay alive before and during the storm along with the one person they do not trust or could there be more than one?

Who/what is more dangerous - the storm or the killer who is on the loose?  What is the killer’s beef and reason?

How will everything turn out?

You will find out in this character-driven, descriptive read.  4/5

A Happier Life by Kristy Woodson Harvey

A house at the beach that her mother grew up in?

Keaton never knew about the house and never knew her grandparents.

When she saw the house, she immediately fell in love with it and with the neighbor next door.

What a great way to spend the summer cleaning and fixing up a house that has been left vacant since 1970.

We move back and forth learning of what happened to Keaton’s grandparents in the 70s and follow Keaton present day as she is getting the house ready to sell and getting close to her neighbors who knew her grandparents and her mother.

A HAPPIER LIFE was a lovely, heartwarming read with great characters, wonderful descriptive writing, a mystery to solve, and Kristy’s signature pull-you-in storytelling.

A sweet, marvelous read to start your summer.  5/5

The Year of What If by Phaedra Patrick

Carla didn’t believe in the family relationship curse.

She knows she found the love of her life and wanted to prove them wrong.

But then her family took her on a mystery evening to have her fortune read.

She didn’t want to have her future read or determined by tarot cards.

She went ahead anyway and had it done, but then she couldn’t get the revelations out of her head.

Wonder if there really is someone from her past she is meant to spend the rest of her life with instead of fiancé Tom who will be her husband in three weeks.

Still determined to break the family curse, she heads back to Spain to find one of her loves from when she was 22 years old.

What will she find?

It was fun following Carla.

Ms Patrick’s newest will have you also thinking about “what if” as you share everything with the lovely characters.  4/5

FEATURING: Mordecai's Ashes by Arlana Crane

MYSTERY

Karl had no job, a bossy sister, and then an inherited detective agency.

We meet Karl as he starts up his grandfather's detective agency, and then adds on his niece as an assistant.

This book has great characters and is a light read except for when Karl was on this dangerous assignment where drugs were being sold and people had been murdered.

MORDECAI'S ASHES had a nicely flowing story line, plenty of tension, some levity, and a fun twist at the end.
