I'm the same way. I generally check out hyped books but don't read them if I don't think I'll like them.
I agree with your answer: I read them to read them not because of the hype. Also on a completely different note, I noticed that you live in Pittsburgh. Have you ever been to old world city café. They have a reading blend and it's amazing!!
Hi Katelynn:I just sent you an e-mail about the reading blend.THANKS for stopping by.
I've learned not to be swayed by hype anymore. I won't invest my precious time reading a book that doesn't grab me with a few randomly selected sample pages. Though I occasionally make some buying mistakes, I've become more discerning.
Yes, I check them out too. I really pay attention to the reviews, especially the negative ones.My post
Thanks for stopping by my blog, V's Stack of Books earlier! I like your answer :D-V
I read reviews too but sometimes I think people read books and review it when they shouldn't. If you don't like that genre you shouldn't read it let alone review it poorly cause you couldn't get into it. IDK just my thoughts when I see negative reviews. I usually look at the 3-4 star reviews, if its in a genre I like. I think those give more honesty on enjoyment.Ashleynemer.blogspot.com
Yes Elizabeth I totally agree. I believe we are all responsible for what we read, and can trust ourselves to read what calls us. While of course being open to recommendations from others. But hype? Occasionally I will chose to read a hype book out of curiosity and an open mind in case I may be missing out but only after consideration of am I likely to like this?
I agree with you, to a point. I think that hype is important in order to get the attention of readers. In at least one case, I was indeed influenced by it. However, if I don't like a book's plot, or if it's an e-book, NO amount of hype will get me to read it.Nice answer! Happy Reading!! :)
If its hyped, then I will check it out. If I like the blurb and the cover, then it goes on my to-read list.
Hype is necessary...I agree, but we all don't have to go along. :)THANKS for stopping by everyone.Great comments.
I think alot of us try and not be pulled into reading book because of hype and just read what we like.Have a good weekend :)http://jenniferdante.blogspot.com/
I have read books in genres I like based on hype mostly .. but now my choices are more influenced by bloggers who have my same reading taste.
LOL, no hype for you either, huh? I like going my own way and not necessarily following the herd, what's your excuse? *grin*
My excuse, Judith, is that I don't follow the crowd either unless I want to. :)More likely than not, I go my own way too. :)
Fantastic straight forward answer Elizabeth, I totally agree with you but I don't think I phrased mine as well as you did LOLMy Friday Meme
Yay for reading whatever you want!!I'm the same way. Love indie authors as much as hyped ones.
Definitely not. I have read a few like that and usually was disappointed.Marianne from Let's Read
