Mailbox Monday - 7/7/14

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. (Library books don’t count, but eBooks & audiobooks do).

Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles, and humongous wish lists!

Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia @ A Girl and Her Books, has a permanent home now at Mailbox Monday.

Every week Mailbox Monday will have a new linky posted for our Mailbox Monday links at Marcia's Mailbox Monday blog.

Here’s a shout out to the new administrators:

Leslie of Under My Apple Tree
Vicki of I’d Rather Be at the Beach
Serena @ Savvy Verse And Wit

THANKS to everyone for keeping Mailbox Monday alive.

I hope you had a good mailbox.
My mailbox was pretty much empty, but that's good for now.  :)

How full or empty was your mailbox this week?

On Monday, June 30 I received:

1.  THE DROP by Dennis Lehane, courtesy of Katherine Turro of Harper Collins.

It is a short book, but I am hoping it is good.

His last book was a bit of a disappointment to me.

What do you do when you get your new books each week?

Do you add them to your TBR shelf or switch all your reads around and add the new ones to the top?

  1. Happy Monday!!

I hope your mailbox was overflowing or maybe not so full??

I am looking forward to this week. I am reading The Lightkeeper's is interesting so far.

As for my question about what do I do with new books that come in, my answer is:

I normally add them to the queue, but sometimes I have to rearrange the order of my books if the new one is for a tour or if it has to be done by a certain date.

    What about you?

  2. I really like Dennis Lehane and look forward to this book.

  3. Yes...he is good.

Live By Night wasn't my favorite of his.

    THANKS for stopping, Diane.

  4. I've only read one of Lehane's books but I really liked it.

New books go on my shelves. I've given up on making a queue because I never stuck with it.

  5. I hope it's a winner for you.
I queue books up usually in the order they are published - but not always.

  6. Thanks for stopping, Mary.

I do the publication date or tour date as I mentioned.

    Have a good reading week.

  7. LOL on giving up. I have to do that sometimes.

    THANKS for stopping, Kathy.

Yes...Dennis Lehane is good. Not sure what made me not like Live By Night as much. I forget. :)

  8. I haven't heard of this one but I've enjoyed the other Dennis Lehane books I have read. I hope you like it!

  9. The Drop looks like one I'd enjoy, especially since there will be a movie. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  10. Dennis Lehane has a lot of good books. I am hoping The Drop is good.

It was new at the BEA. I missed getting it. I am glad I was able to get it when I got home.

    Thanks for stopping, DeniseF.

  11. Oh...I didn't know The Drop was going to be a movie.

I loved Shutter Island so I am sure The Drop will be a good book and a good movie.

    Thanks for stopping, Laurel.

  12. Thanks, Pat.

It is a pretty short read, but I am sure it will be good.

    Thanks for stopping.

  13. It's been a while since reading Lehane but I remember enjoying it! And sometimes a smaller book is good, gives you the feeling you accomplished something by finishing a book quickly! (or maybe that's just me, haha!)
    Happy reading!

  14. The only Lehane books I've read are some in his Kenzie & Gennaro series, and I liked those.

When my new books arrive I log them on goodreads and add them to the pile... literally a pile on the floor in my office. Obviously I need more shelves or the ones I have need pruning!

  15. I pruned my shelves last month.

It still didn't make much of a dent, but I did have room for my BEA books. :)

Goodreads is a great way to log the books. I keep track in Excel and on my shelf. I have them in order.

I usually move things around if I have to have a book read.

    THANKS for stopping, Leslie.

  16. I hope you enjoy the Lehane title. I think it's been a while since I have read him.
I read review books first with plenty other books going on the TBR shelves. Those I try to read older titles first but sometimes I'll go for a particular title when I have open reading time.

  17. We got this one too and I am hoping my hubby will like it as well. He's searching for new books to read.

  18. Hi Elizabeth,

I can't recall ever reading a Dennis Lehane book, none of the synopses has ever really appealed to me, but I can't quite lay my finger on why!

If books which arrive are author or publisher review requests, then they always take priority and are dealt with strictly in the order they were received, which is why I don't generally take part in any organised blog tours or timed events.

Other books are generally left to languish on the shelves and are generally way out of date and almost elderly by the time I get around to reading any of them.

Let's face it .. we probably all own more books than we could possibly ever read ... and yet we still continue to add to the problem!

Interesting post and question. I hope that the Lehane lives up to expectations.

  19. Definitely way too many books, and agreed that we continue to add them.

Lehane runs hot and cold. I read Shutter Island and liked it. I read his Live By Night and was not too impressed.

I will see how one of his short books works out. :)

THANKS for stopping as always, Yvonne.

  20. I read review books first. I have to pace my time with them, but somehow I always get them done. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by, Martha.

  21. Hopefully this book of Mr. Lehane's will be good.

THANKS so much for stopping, Harvee.
