Question of the Week:
Have you ever ventured out of your comfort zone in terms of reading a
genre you have never read? If so, did you get hooked on that new genre?
My Answer:
I honestly have to say I have not ventured out of my comfort zone.
I know what I like to read and stick with those genres. :)
I will read outside of my comfort zone from time to time (mostly for book club) but it's never made me fall in love with a genre.
ReplyDeleteI should try, but it is difficult for me to switch especially to sci-fi or paranormal.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Kathy.
Reading some of the translated literature I have gone through in the past few years has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone. I like knowing what my comfort zone is and knowing what will be out of it. Both do different things for me as a reader.
ReplyDeleteI have only read two books that were translated, but you truly were not able to tell.
DeleteI like my comfort zone on all levels even those that aren't in the reading vein and don't like to move out of that zone too often. :)
Thanks for stopping, Judy.
I do this, too, for the most part. Occasionally, however, I have ventured outside my comfort zone -- not always with happy results! Lol.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I don't read the horror genre. I don't enjoy feeling terrified!
Happy Reading! Enjoy your weekend!! :)
Yes...horror isn't something I like to feel either.
DeleteI like where I am. :)
Thanks for stopping, Maria.
Is this through trial and error? I try to stretch myself but know sometimes it can be once bitten twice shy.
ReplyDeleteNot good if you have been bitten.
DeleteI definitely wouldn't venture out of my comfort zone if that happened.
Thanks for stopping, Emma.
Nonfiction used to be out of my comfort zone but now I read food memoirs which are enjoyable. I have to say a book that makes me think like Me Before You is out of my comfort zone for sure.
ReplyDeleteI like to enjoy and escape when I read. :)
DeleteNonfiction and memoirs aren't my cup of tea at all.
Thanks for stopping, Wolly Cakes and Wooden Spoons.
I read outside my comfort zone and sometimes I realize it's a waste of my time because I just don't like the genre.
ReplyDeleteSportochick’s Musings Answer
That is what happens to me too.
DeleteWhy read something you don't like when there are so many good books in the genres we like.
Thanks for stopping, Teri.
I don't know. If I have jumped out of my comfort zone, it's not been for long.
ReplyDeleteLOL...I think we all know what we like and don't like and always come back if we do venture out.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Tea Norman.
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and I'm sorry you can't comment. I used to be like you and not try anything out of my comfort zone, but then I found a few that actually turned out well when I did. Trust me though, there are a bunch that I ended like NO after 10 pages in lol.
ReplyDeleteOh yes....that is what I am afraid would happen to me so I just stay where I am comfortable. :)
DeleteToo many good books out there to read something I really don't want to or like.
Thanks for stopping, Ali.
I like so many different types of books that I find it hard to define what my comfort zone is--or rather what makes me uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteI definitely found that when I was going through my Postpartum Depression, comfort reading was essential. I couldn't bare anything else. But that's a little different than what is meant by this topic, I know.
If you like a lot of different books, that is great.
DeleteI am a stick-in-the-same genre gal. :)
Thanks for stopping Literary Feline.
Reading outside my comfort zone keeps my reading fresh and I often end up loving the experience.
ReplyDeleteThat is great to hear.
DeleteI usually end up not finishing the book. :)
Thanks for stopping, stacybuckeye.
