Question of the Week:
Your New Year's Resolution is to read a classic novel that you have never read before. What book will it be? (submitted by Billy)
My Answer:
Hmmmmmmm...I am normally not a classic novel reader except for the ones we were required to read in high school, and I actually forget what those were. :)
Believe it or not, though, I have never read THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I am not promising I will read it, but it's the thought that counts. :)

I think I would pick Ethan Frome since a friend of mine recommended it.
ReplyDeleteI have never read Ethan Frome but one classic is enough for me. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping, Kathy.
Excellent pick! I chose Ulysses because I keep starting it but I never seem to get past the first chapter. Have a great weekend! :D
ReplyDeleteI definitely would not read Ulysses. LOL!!
DeleteThanks for stopping, Kitty.
Great pick! I listened to The Great Gatsby not to long ago and while I remembered enjoying it I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it this time around. It's much grimmer than all the "Gatsby" parties make it sound!
ReplyDeleteGlad it was better the second time around. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping, Katherine.
I wouldn't make a resolution like that; life is too short to read books because someone else thinks you should.
ReplyDeleteI am sure I won't be reading a classic. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping, R Curcuru.
Great pick, Elizabeth! I haven't read this book, either, and really feel that I should. This is not the only one I'd like to read, though.
ReplyDeleteBTW, this week I'm participating in the Book Blogger Hop with my other blog, MindSpirit Book Journeys. This blog is dedicated to classics, literary fiction, and nonfiction.
Happy Hopping and Happy New Year!! <3 :)
I will take a look at the other hop, but not into nonfiction.

I read the Great Gatsby a few years ago because I had never read it and was curious. It was better than I thought.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it isn't too bad, but not sure if I will read it or not. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping, Laura.
I am sure you will enjoy it if you do.
ReplyDeleteIt is a BIG IF. LOL!!
DeleteThanks for stopping, Ellen.
Oooh! The Great Gatsby! I should have added that to my list!

DeleteThanks for stopping, Shelley, and welcome to the Blog Hop.
Such a great book. I reread the copy I annotated in high school right before the movie came out. It was neat to see how my thinking about literature changed since I was 16.

I am sure your thinking changed a lot since high school. :)

My husband loves F. Scott Fitzgerald's writings, but has yet to read The Great Gatsby. I'm not sure why not. Maybe because it is his most famous work. My husband can be contrary that way. :-) I read The Great Gatsby in high school and liked it well enough, if my memory serves me right. It was never a book I felt the need to revisit though.
ReplyDeleteI like to read the occasional classic, but they aren't my go to novels most of the time.
I hope you have a wonderful new Year, Elizabeth!
Thanks for stopping, Literary Feline.
DeleteThat is great he has read a lot of F. Scott Fitzgerald's books.
I hope he reads The Great Gatsby.
This is a classic I haven't read yet either, and I would like to.
