Question of the Week:
How many books have you re-read? If you have re-read books, please tell us the book's title and why you re-read it. (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)
How many books have you re-read? If you have re-read books, please tell us the book's title and why you re-read it. (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)
My Answer:
I actually have never re-read a book even though I have gone back to clarify something I missed or something I needed to revisit. At that time, I re-read a few sentences or paragraphs.
My reason is that if you already know what the outcome is why re-read the book?
There are too many good books out there to re-read.
Thanks for stopping.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
I used to re-read Little Women and The Diary of Anne Frank almost every year. I haven't read either in a while.
ReplyDeleteThose books would be worth re-reading.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Kathy.
I reread some though not as much as I used too. I typically only reread character driven books so it's more about revisiting the characters than the plot itself.
ReplyDeleteGood idea...sometimes the characters are so wonderful you need to visit again.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Katherine.
I agree with you on the endings. Sometimes I want to see if a book is as good as I remember though or has stood the test of time,
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI have never done that, but that is a good idea.
Thanks for stopping, Emma.
I don't re-read either because I want to read what I have on my long tbr pile first. Including what I read for blog tour etc. And I totally agree with you about your reasoning about re-reading books. Have a great weekend and happy blog hopping Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katiria.
DeleteI have a very long TBR list too.
Thanks for stopping.
I reread favourites because I always find something new that I missed the first or even fourth time. Also, if I wait long enough, I'm in a different head-space from previous readings and may come away with a different understanding of the book.
ReplyDeleteMakes perfect sense. I am sure I miss things, but I can't make myself go back and re-read the entire book. :)
DeleteYour answer was beautifully done on your blog, literarycounsellor.

I read many classics in my mid-teens, so I'd love to revisit them now I'm an adult to see how life experience has changed my perception. But I never seem to have enough time with too many new books to get through!
ReplyDeleteClassics would be fun to re-visit, but time is the problem.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Nicki.
I love to re-read favorite books, even when I know the outcome of the mystery! But I do find that I have less time to do so.
ReplyDeleteTime is the culprit here. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping, Kym.
While I enjoy rereading my favorites, there are way too many new books to read.
ReplyDeleteIt is really amazing how many new books are out each year isn't it?
DeleteThanks for stopping, Erica.
I do not re-read very often. I can count on one hand the number of books I have. Well, if we leave out all the children's books I read and re-read with my daughter on a daily basis. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week, Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing!
Children's books don't count here. :) :)
DeleteI have re-read books to my son tons of times.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts and practices on re-reading.
Thanks for stopping, Literary Feline.
I agree about already knowing the outcome, but I often forget the details getting to that outcome.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Details do tend to be forgotten.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Chrissy.
Although I'm not a frequent re-reader, I have in the past read some of my most beloved books again. Such is the case with The Twilight Saga, as you know from my own BBH post. Another favorite is "Jane Eyre". I've only re-read it twice. I must read it many more times. I LOVE that book!!
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of re-reading a few sentences or paragraphs in order to clarify something. I do that sometimes, too, especially when I don't review a book right away, and need to refresh my memory regarding a character or plot element.
Thanks for sharing! Also, thanks for visiting my BBH post and leaving such NICE comments, as always!! Hope you're having a WONDERFUL Sunday!!! <3 <3 :) :)
Oh yes...Twilight would be a good re-read. Jane Eyre is an ok read for me.
DeleteGreat you have re-read. I rarely do.
Thanks for stopping and for leaving your comments and thoughts, Maria.
I love re-reading books after knowing the outcome because the second read can be an entirely new experience when you know the characters' motivations and thought processes. I also have realized that I digest stories differently now that I am older and have had more life experiences. I also use familiar books as comfort aids. I guess it is akin to watching a favorite movie several times. Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful reasons for re-reading.
DeleteTotally agree with you.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts and ideas to think about.
Thanks for stopping, La La in the Library.
