Question of the Week:
For all of you worker bees out there! How do you balance having a day job/career and managing your blog at night? Is it hard or easy to do, and what do people in your work life think of your blogs? (submitted by Danielle @ PoetryBooksYA)
My Answer:
I no longer work, but when I was working I was able to manage my job and my family as well as keep up with my blog. I just made time. My blog was my stress relief.
The folks where I worked loved hearing about my blog, and they still do.
Teachers LOVE to read so the teachers I worked with always asked for book recommendations from me and also read my blog.

Oh that's nice!! My current job doesn't really have that environment sadly. Yet it's pretty slow that I can sneak in more reading time than what's normal! Lol!

Great on sneaking time to read. :)
DeleteUnfortunately no time for that when you are teaching. I have all the time in the world now. :) :)
Thanks for commenting, Jessica.
I don't really have a job but still have trouble balancing everything!
ReplyDeleteI have always been organized.
DeleteThanks for commenting, Kathy.
That's nice how your teachers knew you from your blog and got recommendations from you. Thanks for answering my question! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes....they knew I read. And since they liked to read, it was fun.

Thanks for commenting.
That is nice to be able to talk to people about books. I don't know really anyone who reads like I do so it's nice to have this outlet!
ReplyDeleteI am lucky to have a lot of people that like to chat books.
DeleteWe can talk for hours. :)
Thanks for commenting, Katherine.
That's a wonderful answer! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and past experience. I think being able to work in an environment that's accepting of your blog and with people who are interested in similar subjects is definitely going to make it somewhat easier to manage your blog and talk about it freely.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is still fairly new, and whilst it is an element of stress relief, there have been personal issues in my life that have kept me from being able to manage it all that well. I don't work as such, but, when/if I do, I think I would much prefer to work flexible hours as that'd give me more ability to manage my blog.
Feel free to check out my own answer if you wish (and a puppy update!)

DeleteI’m so happy I started my blog.
I hope you can have fun with your blog too.
Thanks for commenting, Charlotte.
Sorry for the late visit and comment, Elizabeth.... I've been getting bogged down, as you can see! Lol.
ReplyDeleteYou're a SUPER organized person, so I'm not surprised you were able to keep up with your blog even while you were working and taking care of your family! KUDOS TO YOU!! I have a hard time doing that....
You're SO lucky that your co-workers were interested in your blog..... I used to have an office job during the day, and NO ONE there was interested! But people at my night job aren't that interested, either. I've only told a couple of teachers, and they were just like, "Okay". So I haven't mentioned the blog anymore. Lol.
Just last night, I told s few of the students, in a new ESOL class I'm now teaching, about the blog. Hope they decided to visit and read at least one post!
Thanks for sharing!! Hope you're having a GREAT week!! HUGS!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I am late too with visiting everyone. No worries.
DeleteNice comment as always...thanks, Maria.
