Page count doesn't bother me, but I may put off starting a longer one if I have some I need to finish quickly to hit a review date. I'll do those first and then come back to it.
I sometimes put off reading books over 600 pages, depending on the type of book, because I know it will take me a little longer to read. I've read quite a few though that have pulled me in so completely that I am finished with them before I know it.
I've got to be honest and say, like you, books with this many pages does tend to put me off, 200-300 is my average. I have read longer books that have had too many lulls to keep my interest.
That’s not to say I wouldn’t ever read longer again because there are at least half a dozen books on my Goodreads 5 star rating shelf that are over 400 pages long.
I think it helps if there’s enough going on in the plot to keep me engaged, for example, Blade of Darkness by Dianne Duvall was 541 pages long and I absolutely loved it and devoured every page! The same with Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia which is a whopping 735 pages long.
Page numbers don't really effect whether I read a book or not. I like when they aren't too long though because then I can move onto the next one!

ReplyDeleteYes...that is what keeps me from picking up a long book. I have review dates to meet. :)

I usually don't pay attention to the page numbers since I pick up a book based on the story being told.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. So true, but big books still intimidate me even with a terrific story. :)

DeleteMy average is 300-350 pages.
I do read over 400 at times, but not very often.
The characters keep me going in a book.
