America's Most Well-Read Cities

I found this in Shelf Awareness Pro's Newsletter on June 3, 2016, and thought it would be interesting to share.

My city didn't make the list.  Did yours?

Seattle, where Amazon's corporate headquarters is located, led the online retailer's fifth annual list of the "most well-read cities in the U.S."

The ranking was determined by compiling sales data for all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format from April 2014 to April 2015, on a per capita basis in cities with more than 500,000 residents.

  1. Do you think we can really determine a well-read city by book sales?

I use the library and receive books from publishers. :)

    Love my library.

    Thanks for stopping.

  2. I suspected that Austin would appear. We are a reading city here, but we also have a very large university and are the state capitol. And I'm not surprised that Seattle and Portland are on top. Lots of rain in that part of the country and lots of opportunity to hunker down and read. :-)

  3. How interesting! I'm with you Elizabeth with wondering if book sales really truly reflect reading. If you just looked at my book buying habits you wouldn't think I read very much at all!

I rarely buy books. I use the library as I said.
