Reading Genres

I only read certain genres and normally do not move outside of historical fiction, mystery, and women's fiction.

I definitely do not read horror.  Nor do I like sci-fi or paranormal.

Everyone has different likes and dislikes of course, but it is interesting to know if you would venture outside your normal reading genres or stick with only certain genres.

Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Definitely against horror too, enough of that in the world about. I like what you read plus I do read a little paranormal and romance, but actually prefer the women's fiction aspect.

    1. Once in a while paranormal sneaks into a book, and as long as it isn't too heavy, I am ok with it.

  3. There are go to genres for me, but am open to most genres and do read a wide variety of genres when I can. Although, I do tend to shy away from westerns.

    1. Westerns aren't in my radar either. :)

That's great you branch out. I am a stick in the mud. LOL!!

  4. I gravitate to the ones you've mentioned...and avoid horror, paranormal, and sci-fi. Although I have enjoyed some of Karen White's books that have a little bit of the paranormal twist in them.

    Enjoy!

    1. When paranormal gets "snuck in" and isn't a major part of the book, I am good.

  5. I have my favorite genres but I do read outside my comfort zones. I'm pretty much an eclectic reader.

  6. I used to primarily stick to one or two genres, but now I read almost all genres. Like you, I am not a fan of horror books, but I will occasionally read a good thriller.

    1. Great that you can branch out.

A good thriller works for me too as long as it isn’t too scary.

  7. I very much have a comfort zone when reading - crime, thriller, mystery, family saga, MG - but I like to think I step outside of that every so often. I think it's natural to read what you know you're likely to enjoy.

    Interesting topic.

  8. Gee, guess I'm the only one here so far who likes a good horror. That would be my main genre, but I do read outside the box too and have a big selection in my book mountain including historical fiction.

Good you can move out at times.

  9. I joined a book club to read outside of my genre of choice (thrillers) and overall it was a nightmare. Psychological Thrillers are my favourite, my current trend is Domestic thrillers. All mystery , suspense etc. I enjoy memoirs, horrors, women's fiction and poetry now and then also.

    1. Nice genre. :)

Domestic thrillers work better for me than any other thrillers, but I do prefer a simple mystery.

  10. I generally don't stick to a "genre". I like to read all types. The only exception to my rule is steampunk. I have tried and I do not like it

    1. Good answer....steampunk is something I don’t know anything about, but it looks as if it probably isn’t for me. :)

  11. Most of my reading is historical fiction, women's fiction, or thriller. I also enjoy narrative nonfiction. I'll occasionally read fantasy or scifi, and love fairy tale retellings, but won't tough horror or most memoirs.

    1. We have similar interests in genre.

Nonfiction is normally not on my book shelf.

Agreed about horror - I don’t like memoirs either.

  12. I read a lot of literary fiction and lately psychological thrillers. But mostly I like quiet novels. I do like Sci-Fi and I love certain horror authors like King but it's not straight-up horror. I don't care for Historical Fiction, Romance or memoir all that much.
