ABOUT VOX:

Set in a near-future United States, VOX imagines a society in which women are allowed only 100 words per day.

Every female child, teenager and adult has a wristband to keep count, and for every word they go over their quota, they receive an electric shock of increasing intensity.

To Dr. Jean McClellan, who was a neurolinguist before all women lost their jobs, words are not only a way to communicate but a source of identity. And without the ability to freely express her thoughts, opinions and emotions, Jean is afraid of who she—and her young daughter—might become.

But when the President’s brother suffers brain damage in a ski accident, Jean is put back to work, at least temporarily. In exchange for her help, she negotiates her and her daughter’s release from the word quota.
However, she soon finds that her research will not only be used to aid the President’s brother. The government has an agenda even more dangerous than the wristbands—and the effects will be permanent.
Jean has no choice but to stop them, not only for her family, but for a whole nation of women forced into silence.
