In A Quiet Town by Amber Garza

Adrianne's father has always been controlling and has always kept a close eye on her.

Her father, Shane, was a preacher and demanded she act appropriately and date the correct man.

Her mother, Tatum, couldn't do anything to ease his control because he did the same to her.

Adrienne finally grew up and got out of the house, but her father still didn't approve of her life, and he didn't allow her mother to see her.

Tatum would sneak out on Wednesday nights when Shane was at his meetings. Adrienne was thrilled to see her mother after all these years.

One day Adrienne didn't show up at work and wasn't at her apartment or anywhere in town.

Tatum was worried, but Shane said it was probably flighty Adrienne taking off for a few days.

The few days spread into a longer period of time with no sign of her.

The only clue was her boyfriend Seth who showed up and was helping Tatum try to piece together what could have happened to Adrienne.

IN A QUIET TOWN was told in past and present and with each chapter being the story of one of the characters.

I had my suspicions about a few of the characters and wondered if they had been the ones who harmed Adrienne.

Amber Garza keeps you on the edge of your seat as she always does.

It was a bit confusing with all the chapter changing of characters, but it is a GOOD one!!

Fans won't want to miss it!!  4/5

Maidens of the Cave by Lloyd Devereux Richards

We meet Christine Prusik, a feisty FBI agent, who doesn’t like to follow the rules but always solves cases.

Christine is told that she has no business investigating the deaths of two young women on a college campus because it is out of the FBI’s jurisdiction, but she doesn’t care.  She cares about making sure there isn’t another victim.

She ignores orders from her supervisor to be at a meeting in person and to have some profile completed and turned in.  Of course, Christine doesn’t listen...she has leads and is going to catch this serial killer.

The biggest clue is that there is a ring-sized mark on both victims which to her indicates these cases are related and that the killer is educated, clever, cunning, and very evil.

Christine is a likable character in this second book, and a book I was perfectly fine starting with.  It is readable as a stand alone.

I was a little skeptical at first thinking this was going to be all about FBI procedure, but was pleased when that went on the back burner and the search for the killer took over.

True crime buffs will enjoy this book that has descriptive writing and a story line that keeps you turning the pages.

The conclusion is edge-of-your-seat.  5/5

A Bakery in Paris by Aimie K. Runyan

Who doesn’t love a bakery?

A family bakery from one generation to the next is even better.

We meet Lisette in 1870 who left the wealth of her family to marry her true love and to use her recipes to help the poor and recipes that carried on to the next generations.

We meet Micheline, the great granddaughter of Lisette, living in the aftermath of WWII and caring for her two sisters since her father was killed and her mother disappeared a few days before the end of the war.

She needed to find a way to make a living and support herself and the girls.

Her neighbor and friend of her great grandmother told her she had talent in the kitchen and paid for her tuition at a culinary school.

We follow both women as their skills in the kitchen help them survive.

You will love both of them and all of the characters. I wanted to be there with them.

Readers will also be treated to delicious recipes and the beautiful pull-you-in writing and storyline Ms. Runyan has given us.

It is a heartwarming read you won't want to miss.  5/5

The Last Masterpiece by Laura Morelli

An American stenographer and a German photographer meet in Italy.

Both women are trying to save the art the Germans are taking and hiding.

We meet Ava who was taking photographs of art work and Josephine who joined the WAC's and is a stenographer.

We travel with both women and learn of what went on and what the plan was for all the art work.

I actually found it difficult to connect to the story line, but Ms. Morelli's research is impeccable, and her writing is detailed and beautiful as always.

Loved the mention of shorthand, the Italian dialogue, the photography information, and the role Italy played during the war and in the art in Florence.

It was very interesting to learn of Monuments Women.  I had only heard of Monuments Men.

Art aficionados and art historians will devour this beautifully written book that tells of how art was protected during WWII. 4/5

Tahoe Flight by Todd Borg

Holding a grudge for 20 years definitely isn’t a good thing - especially for the person who the grudge is against.

Tucker Dopple held a grudge against Benito Diaz and McKenna for 20 years because Benito testified against him and McKenna was the policeman who apprehended him and put him in prison for all those years.

Tucker is out and seeking revenge….he vows to kill both men and doesn’t make it a secret that he is out to get them.  He told Benito that right to his face after he kidnapped him and beat him up.

Meanwhile another murder happens at a reunion of doctors, and that puts McKenna in the middle of that case and as usual with dire consequences.

TAHOE FLIGHT continues the story of McKenna, His Largeness, Street, Blondie, and Camille, the daughter Street adopted, along with the tension-filled story line of McKenna once again trying to stay alive.

The wonderful characters readers love continue to warm our hearts but also raise our blood pressure with the risks and dangers McKenna always puts himself in.

Don’t miss #21 of Todd Borg’s always educational and stress-filled adventures of Detective Owen McKenna.

Fans will love this one as much as all the others.  5/5

Gone Tonight by Sarah Pekkanen

Why has Ruth continually moved from city to city all her life?

Why has she kept her and her daughter's life private and a secret?

Now that her daughter Catherine is ready to move out and get on with her life, a health problem crops up for Ruth. Catherine feels guilty about leaving her mother since she has Alzheimer's.

Catherine actually works in a facility for Alzheimer patients and does see all the signs in her mother now that she is paying closer attention.

A regret Catherine has is that her mother never revealed who her father is nor has her mother ever told her anything about her life.

The reason for never telling Catherine about her life is that Ruth has a huge secret that becomes revealed as the book alternates between chapters titled Ruth and Catherine and as it gives past and present details.

GONE TONIGHT is a slow buildup that made me wonder where the book was going.

Once it is apparent where it is going, you won't want to put the book down. 4/5
