Reading Outside My Comfort Zone – Surprise Find(s) This Year

1.  Deanna Raybourn - A Curious Beginning

It was mystery, but different from what I normally read as a mystery.
*********

That is about the only book that was out of my comfort zone.

Every other book was in my preferred reading genre.

I am pretty particular about what I will read and not read.  :)

I have never and don't think I will read a sci-fi book or paranormal book.

Love this question...again..learning more about fellow bloggers.  :)

  2. I read all sorts of genre and I would say that some books are outside my comfort zone, but there are some types I just won't read.

    1. I agree that there are definitely some genres I will NEVER read.

      Thanks for stopping, Heather.

  3. I'm with you on generally not reading sci-fi and paranomal, although I did love The Martian and I guess it counts as sci-fi? I really will never read romance or cozy mysteries, though!

  4. Setting myself some diversity goals has made me read outside my comfort zone for sure, and I've had some huge successes with that. (And some catastrophic failures.) But like, I've definitely become more open to reading just straight mainstream fiction (vs primarily sci fi and fantasy), and that's been great. That said I still had to do a big hunt through my reading spreadsheet for this year to find anything properly outside of my comfort zone so... :p

    1. Good luck looking through your spreadsheet. Mine is so long. :)

That is good you set some goals for yourself. I just can't seem to move out of what I usually read.

Thanks for sharing and stopping, Jenny.

  5. Outside my comfort zone would be maybe a memoir or a book that makes me think. Once in a while I will read such a book.

    1. Now that is an interesting thought about what "outside your comfort zone" means. I like it.

      Thanks for stopping, Stefanie.

  6. I'm such an eclectic reader. I'm constantly reading outside my comfort zone, but I do have my favorite genres.

    1. That is good...I can't make myself go outside too often. :)

      Thanks for stopping, Laura.

  7. I do, at times, read outside of my comfort zone. While I prefer mystery; historical fiction; or psychological thrillers, I have found some fantasies or paranormal to be well-done. :)

  8. I rarely read out of my comfort zone. I do sometimes- and some books this year were a bit more graphic than my normal choices in mystery- and I found that as long as I had a happy book lined up next- I could handle it!
