Hmmm...I think I decide sooner than that...but you are right...it depends on the book and its size.
Yes...Chapter 15 wasn’t definitive enough so that’s why I went to a page number. :)Thanks for commenting, Patty.
Three chapters - if the book doesn't grab by then, I don't continue.
Chapters are a good measure. Thanks for commenting, Alex.
Interesting question. I’ve stopped books at page 120 and page 2. It just hits me that I don’t want to read any more.
Love your book gauge, Lloyd. Thanks for commenting.
I guess it depends on whether or not parts of the book are good...in those cases, I will keep reading for about 100 pages. Otherwise, I might ditch the book after 50 pages.
Yes....100 pages seems to be the norm. Thanks for commenting, Laurel.
Elizabeth, I am facing this dilemma right now! My library book is almost due--should I renew it, or return it. I don't know what to do!
Are you enjoying it? If so, renew it. :)Thanks for commenting, Suko.
I try to struggle through about a third of the book. If it doesn't grab me then, I might set it aside for a couple of weeks just to be sure it's the book and not my mood. But once I've decided it's not something I'll stick with, I might read the last chapter or epilogue. Then, when I realize I just-don't-care what happens to the characters, I make the book disappear.
Good plan...a mood may make a difference.LOL on your comment about just not caring about the characters. Disappearing works for me too. Thanks for commenting, Kim.
An author once told me if the book doesn't grab hold by page 20, that it's not a good sign so I stop at approx. page 50.
Really?Page 20 seems a bit too low. I think your 50 works out better. Thanks for commenting, Cheryl.
