Most lies are harmless.

Others, however, can come back to bite you. For one Native American woman who is down on her luck, a little white lie she tells to get ahead snowballs, until the successful life she built for herself is in jeopardy.

An entertaining rom-com with Indigenous representation that’s filled with witty humor and romance readers’ favorite tropes.

In it, a Chickasaw woman misrepresents her racial identity to land the job of her dreams, but the lies she must tell to keep her secret quickly spin out of control.

ABOUT THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO EMBER:

THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO EMBER is a humorous novel that tackles real issues faced by readers today.

Nava is a registered member of the Chickasaw Nation, and she accurately depicts the challenges faced by millennial twenty-somethings attempting to “adult,” especially as members of marginalized groups.

Her novel is a refreshing take on the frustrating realities of hiring practices, workplace politics, and falling in love. She also fills her novel with delicious tropes like workplace romance, “there is only one bed,” and mistaken identity, for a vibrant, diverse story perfect for modern rom-com fans.

Ember Lee Cardinal can’t catch a break. An aspiring accountant, she’s been working a dead-end job at a bowling alley for far too long, and despite her efforts, she hasn’t landed a single interview in the accounting field.

After her resume is rejected for the thirty-seventh time, she takes matters into her own hands. She adds some experience to her qualifications, and she takes her Native American identity out of her demographics. It’s a half-lie, but before she has the chance to regret her choice, she lands the job of her dreams.

At first, Ember thrives in corporate life, proud that she’s proving everyone’s assumptions about Indigenous people wrong. Her love life even seems to be looking up when she meets Danuwoa Colson, who works in IT and is also Native American.

Despite the company’s no-dating policy, they start to see each other after hours. What’s one more secret, right?

But when they’re found out by a toxic coworker, suddenly Ember is being blackmailed and she must tell even more lies to protect her job and her new relationship.

Things quickly start to spin out of control, and Ember must make the hard decision to stay silent or finally tell the truth, which could cost her everything.
