Golda was accompanying her sister Esther to America because she was pregnant.

Esther died in childbirth on the boat trip over, and Golda was left with the baby and Esther’s husband.

She didn’t speak English, and she had no place to stay, but her sister’s husband took her into his cousin’s house.

As was the custom, Golda had to marry her sister’s husband mainly to protect the baby from being sent to an orphanage.

We follow Golda and Ben as they make a life for themselves in New York City during the depression and as they dealt with poverty and gangs.

STREET CORNER DREAMS is a lovely read about family and the sacrifices we make for each other. 

There is a lot of heartbreak and suspense but has characters you will love.

I truly enjoyed following Golda's life and learning about the life in America in the 1900s.

You won’t want to put the book down because you want to see how the family copes and how everything turns out.
