Book Blogger Appreciation Week Day 5

 

Today is the last day of my FIRST Book Blogger Appreciation Week.  I wasn't sure I was able to join in since I missed registration, but one of our wonderful bloggers, Trish, told me I could join in.

I am so happy she let me know.  I had a great time.  I enjoyed meeting so many new bloggers and visiting their awesome blogs.

My favorite part of this week was both Day 3 AND Day 4.  

Day 3 allowed everyone to see the creativity, the fellowship, the super blogging community, and to learn a lot about bloggers we have never met and more about bloggers we already knew. 

Day 4 added so many books to my TBR stack, but I loved it.

I am looking forward to next year's Book Blogger Appreciation Week.

The Ropewalk has something for everyone....suspense, mystery, history, questioning, love, an extremely brilliant, thought-provoking ending, and most of all an outstanding read that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.   A very engaging, captivating read.

Book Blogger Appreciation Week - Day 3

Book Blogging to me is a way to express my thoughts and feelings about EVERY book bloggers' favorite obsession.....BOOKS.

I never used to think twice about writing a review about a book, but when I started looking at blogs and honestly wondering what in the world blogs were, I had an urge to let others know about books I loved so I started a blog of my own.  Blogging was that means of "getting the word out."

Blogging has now become a passion and is my favorite pastime besides reading.  Along with reading books and writing the reviews, my MOST favorite part of blogging is meeting other bloggers.  The creativity of bloggers is amazing....creativity in terms of blog design and the way they write their posts.

Bloggers are a wonderful community who love to share with others and to inspire others to read. I have met countless bloggers that are so helpful and so willing to contribute and share ideas and recommend books.

Tahoe Trap by Todd Borg

An illegal immigrant, a foster mother, an undercover agent, a "large" dog, thugs, murders, and Lake Tahoe are the essence of this thriller.

You will fall in love with the almost-silent, unemotional Paco and feel his pain for the life he has lived for the past ten years. You will also have respect for Agent McKenna who has no children of his own but who is taking on the responsibility of protecting Paco and being a father to him.

The dialogue between characters is wonderful, and the descriptions of the scenery and settings takes you right there enjoying the moment or fearing for your life along with the characters.

I have never read a novel by Todd Borg even though Tahoe Trap is his latest book out of ten.  He is an outstanding author with great attention to the reader's reactions to the book's situations. He draws you right into the action, and the end definitely has a lot of action. You will be on the edge of your seat.  Excellent author and book with a great deal of research.

Book Blogger Appreciation Week - Day 2 Interview

 

I just found out about this awesome event yesterday so I am going to interview myself instead of having another team member to interview.

 Interview with myself:

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?

I normally do not snack.  I might have a cup of tea, though.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of
writing in books horrify you?

I never write in my books.  I try to keep them as pristine and new as I can.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?

Definitely no dog-earred pages.  I use an envelope, a picture, a bill, and sometimes I use an actual bookmark.  :)

Laying the book flat open?

Never, never, never.  Always close the book and mark my place.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

I read both, but prefer fiction.

Hard copy or audiobooks?

Definitely hard copy unless I am in the car, then I like the audio on a long trip or if I am alone driving back and forth from wherever.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you
able to put a book down at any point?

I like to read to the end of a chapter, but if I am too tired, I stop and turn my bookmark sideways indicating where I left off.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?

No...I wait until later or totally forget.

What are you currently reading?

What is the last book you bought?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - interesting question.  I haven't bought a book for ages.  I have so many from the BEA this past June, from authors, and publishers, that I don't think I will have to buy a book for the rest of my life.  :)

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can
you read more than one at a time?

Oh...I can only read ONE book at a time.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?

I love to read in the evening on my porch or at night in the spare bedroom, but if the opportunity comes up, I will read ANY TIME and ANY PLACE.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?

I am not in the habit of reading series, but I may at some point.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?

Oh yes...I always recommend SHADOW OF THE WIND by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and also THE FORGOTTEN GARDEN by Kate Morton.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)

I have my shelves organized by size and my shelves are also organized by READ, TO BE READ, and MUST BE READ THIS MONTH.

Trust No One by Laurel Bradley

 

Taylor Wilson married Phil because he was handsome and had the same interests as she did, but apparently she didn't know everything about Phil.  Something fishy was going on....her house didn't blow up on its own, Phil wouldn't have taken money from the security box without telling her, Phil definitely didn't spell his name with two L's, and Phil definitely wouldn't have left and not gotten in touch.

Taylor had to find Phil and find out why he just disappeared, and she also needed to escape the clutches of the FBI who were protecting her.  FBI?  Phil Missing?  Something certainly wasn't right and it definitely was something sinister.  The hints Taylor found and the text message that Phil sent "had" to be clues of Phil's location.  Taylor did escape from the FBI and tried to follow the clues to where she thought Phil might be, but she couldn't find him. 

As she was running from the FBI, she didn't realize someone else who was very dangerous was looking for her and was known to her husband.  The book focused on Taylor's following the clues she believed her husband had left her and on the FBI's solving of murders that all seemed to be connected, but how?  There had to be someone on the inside giving the "bad guys" information.  

The book was a thriller and was filled with secrets, evil people, people who really were not who they said they were, lies, hatred turned to revenge, many twists and turns, and of course murders.

TRUST NO ONE was fast paced and kept you guessing until the end. There were a few things that were somewhat farfetched, though, such as how Taylor escaped in her van, evaded the FBI, and rode on a snowmobile to Notre Dame. There also is some sensitive subject matter, but on the whole, it has a terrific storyline. 5/5
